They are known in North America as "The English Beat" and in Australia as "The British Beat"

They were formed out of Birmingham, England, during 1978.

The Beat successfully fuse together a combination of Ska, Pop, Soul, Reggae, New Wave, and Punk, their lyrical themes deal with everything from love, to unity and sociopolitical topics.

The Beat, consisting of Dave Wakeling (vocals, guitar), Ranking Roger (vocals), Andy Cox (guitar), David Steele (bass), Everett Morton (drums), and Saxa aka Lionel Augustus Martin (saxophone), released three studio albums in the early ,80s, and a string of singles, the most popular of which were probably - "Mirror in the Bathroom", "Too Nice to Talk To", "Can't Get Used to Losing You", "Hands Off, She's Mine" and "All Out to Get You".
