Info and Intro

They're an American Experimental Rock band, first active from '82 to '97, fronted by the singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Michael Gira.

They always maintained a strong and devoted following within the Gothic community.

The Swans were one of the short list of groups who emerged from the early '80s New York No Wave scene and stay intact into the next decade.

Gira put the Swans together in '82, after this, they employed a shifting lineup of musicians until their dissolution in 1997, apart from Gira, the only other constant members were keyboardist/vocalist/songwriter Jarboe from 1984 to 1997, and semi-constant guitarist Norman Westberg.

They became known for their experimental instrumentation and repetitive song structures.

2010 saw Gira reform The Swans without Jarboe.

Here's the Swans covering the Joy Division classic, love will tear us apart.
