Intro and Info

They were a Swedish Extreme Metal band, formed out of Vällingby in 1983 and named after the infamous Hungarian countess, Elizabeth Báthory.

The band's frontman and main songwriter was Quorthon (Tomas Forsberg).

Bathory's first four albums became "the blueprint for Scandinavian Black Metal".

Once they arrived at their fifth album, Hammerheart in 1990, the band had departed from this style, which is often cited as the first "Viking Metal" album. They then continued in the "Viking Metal" style throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, then taking on a more Thrash Metal style.

Bathory ended when Quorthon died from heart failure in 2004.
