Also called "Symphorophilia" this is a fetish/paraphilia in which someone will achieve sexual arousal by staging and watching a disaster, something along the lines of a fire or a traffic accident.

The term was first coined by John Money in his 1984 paper "Paraphilias: Phenomenology and classification", the word being formed from the Greek root "συμφορά" ("symphora"):

This is a form of fetish/paraphilia which may even have a sacrificial side, with the name "Symphorophilia", meaning being erotically turned on by accidents or catastrophes, or sexual activity that culminates in an arranged disaster, such as an automobile crash, in some ways "Symphorophilia" could be seen like a game of Russian roulette, "it may end in death", and can be performed alone or with a partner. However, flirting with disaster, rather than suicide and murder is the trigger responsible for autoerotic arousal and excitement, for example, being some kind of daredevil who will live to risk a love-death again is an essential part of this paraphilia.

An example that could be cited would be;- in the same way a photographic print is the positive made from its negative, so is the positive that is made from self-crashing and arranging for a disaster to occur on the highway, and then watching it all take place from a preselected vantage post.

Disasters other than on the highway are also arranged, for example, catastrophic fires.

For those members of the general public who have a touch of sadomasochism in them, disaster as an unrehearsed event is often a large part of the appeal of entertainment stunts and sports, from the circus to stock-car racing.
