Jazz Rock is a sub genre of Rock with heavy ties to Jazz in the terms of its structure and/or instrumentation.

It can be traced back to the late 1960s, where artists such as Soft Machine and Frank Zappa created albums through extended and improvisational jam sessions, these musical works favoured, but were not limited to traditional rock instruments. Jazz Rock can also refer to less experimental forms of Rock, incorporating the sound, style and scales of Jazz within a more commercial song structure, for example Steely Dan
