The dictionary describes Masochism as;

1; a sexual perversion characterized by pleasure in being subjected to pain or humiliation especially by a love object — compare Sadism
2; pleasure in being abused or dominated: a taste for suffering

"Sexual masochism" would be included on the list of paraphilias that would fall within the bracket of "psychiatric sexual disorders", which sadly would mean it would be considered an "abnormal or unnatural attraction", however, here at Altopedia, we believe that;
Unless you're hurting someone by your deliberate intent to cause hurt, surely, whatever happens between consenting adults is no ones business, other than the business of those taking part by their choice to take part?

"Sexual masochism" would refer to engaging in or frequently fantasizing about being beaten, bound, humiliated, or otherwise made to suffer, resulting in sexual satisfaction. Some of these activities could take the shape of; Blindfolds, Spanking or a Humiliation Fetish.

Masochists may inflict their own pain through shocking, pricking or choking. Approximately 30 percent of Masochists also participate in Sadism.

One particularly dangerous method is called Autoerotic Asphyxiation caused by reducing oxygen level in the brain. This results in the accidental death of one or two per million people per year. To achieve near-asphyxiation, masochists might place a noose around their necks, chest compression, put airtight bags over their heads or use amyl nitrates ("poppers").

Sadomasochistic relationships tend to be well planned, with partners deciding on a special word (known as "the safe word") that the masochist will use to indicate that the sadist should stop, but until the time that the "safe word" is used, the masochist may beg for the sadist to stop, or say all sorts of things that will give the impression that they wish for the sadist to stop, or that the sadist "can't take any more".
