Intro

Metalcore is a combination of Extreme Metal and Hardcore Punk.

Info

The name grew from the names of the two other genres, Heavy Metal and Hardcore and can be distinguished by its emphasis on slow breakdowns, combined with intense passages generally used for moshing.

Pioneering bands, such as Avenged Sevenfold, Hatebreed and Bury Your Dead, lean more towards beatdown hardcore, but some of the later bands like - Bullet For My Valentine and Parkway Drive lean more towards extreme Heavy Metal influences. There is also a strong influence from the Brazilian metal act Sepultura, who has been credited to “laying the foundation” for the genre, another band credited with inspiring the genre is Pantera, who influenced bands such as Hatebreed, Bleeding Through, Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold and Unearth. Some of these acts, also crossed over with the Screamo world, something that the fans of Metalcore might enjoy checking out.

Some of the very early days influences would include acts like - Black Flag and Bad Brains, others that have been credited as originators of Metalcore and are admired would include Black Sabbath, Discharge, The Exploited and The Misfits.
