Minimalist music, originally grew out of America and was a genre that grew from experimentation and was sometimes called "Downtown music". Minimalist was given this name in the 1960s.

Minimalist is based on the musical stylings and instrumentation of three very diffierent types;-
African percussion, which is a beautiful collection of beats and rhythms that can even be used to create a hypnotic state, and can be use for religious purposes and simply celebration.
Indonesian Gamelan, an incredible ethnic style which is unappreciated outside of its own country.
Western tonality, this covers a minefield of different styles, including composers like Philip Glass, and even some Ambient artists, as well as some Ambient Techno artists.
