An Attempt to Explain

Power Metal ..... usually an up-beat variation of the Heavy Metal genre, up tempo groove led bass riffs combining fast guitar hooks and catchy fast paced rhythms. Sometimes power metal is associated with Neo-Classical Metal and Progressive Metal, and often Glam Metal.

The earliest indications of power metal date back to 1976 when Rainbow, at the time led by Ronnie James Dio, released the track, “Stargazer”. This is widely regarded as the first power metal song.

The early 90’s saw a rise in power metal bands, with the emergence of acts like, Gamma Ray, Angra and Iced Earth. In 1997 the genre’s popularity experienced a major boost with Hammerfall, Rhapsody of Fire and Edguy all putting out debut albums.
