Synthpop

Synthpop is a type of Pop music in which the synthesizer is the dominant instrument.

In the 80s it was associated with the New Wave scene and can be traced back to the inventive work done by the likes of Kraftwerk (from Germany) and Yellow Magic Orchestra (from Japan), these bands are often seen as the inventors, although in the early 80s Post Punk, New Wave scene, a number of bands bought this genre to the foreground, some of the most famous being;- Duran Duran, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Yazoo, Gary Numan.
