Issue 1 - Add a button for 'Create Page'. Combine the go/search buttons to state 'search/create page'.

Some feedback on this request: The Go and Search buttons are slightly different. The Go button searches for an exact match of a page depending on what's typed in the field (searching for 'Fetishes' will bring up the Fetishes page). On the other hand, the Search button is supposed to search for text within an article (so searching for 'fetishes' will bring up any page that has the word fetishes in it.--Thebigc (talk)

Thanks for the feedback!!! :) Maybe make that clear somewhere?????

Issue 2 - Change all references of 'wiki' and 'MediaWiki' to 'Altopedia'

I believe this has been done, but there may still be some references left in the imported help pages.--Thebigc (talk) 09:16, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Issue 3 - Set up locally hosted help/user guides

This is in progress, I've imported the help files from MediaWiki, just need to go through them and format them correctly for Altopedia.--Thebigc (talk) 09:16, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Issue 4 - Add sections to the user guide explaining the search functionality and how to create a page

This is done now--[[User:Thebigc|TheBigC]] (talk) 07:40, 2 January 2013 (EST)

Issue 5 - Add news feeds to the front page (similar in style to Wikipedia)

I've had a look at how Wikipedia do this and it appears to be all manual (all lot of good work from some dedicated people). As we don't have the resources for this at the moment we'll have to use some embedded news feeds. Having a quick look at the BBC Terms of Use and doing some digging around for possible issues online, it looks like this will be a case-by-case issue for any feed(s) we want to include. The best advice I've seen is 1) Contact a lawyer and 2) Ask permission first. If we put together a list of which feeds we want I'll look into it further - I for one wouldn't mind seeing the Metal Hammer RSS feed on the front page (but that's a bit biased of me :D).--TheBigC (talk) 08:24, 3 January 2013 (EST)

Good advice, we will have a feed from the IV as and when it's sorted, but for now, we can ask our woman of law, Julia!! :) --Rex

Issue 6 - Enable file/image upload

Upload functionality turned on, some errors have been reported by User:Rex and I've noticed it as well, see Issue 39.--Thebigc (talk)

Issue 7 - Add portals / main topics to the main page (again, similar to Wikipedia)

Issue 8 - Add sections to the user guide explaining how to add headings and how these impact the contents section of a page

Done.--TheBigC (talk) 07:53, 2 January 2013 (EST)

Issue 9 - Implement namespaces and add a user guide on how namespaces affect the site

Check out the Help:Namespaces and Admin:Altopedia Namespaces pages for more information on namespaces.--Thebigc (talk) 14:28, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Issue 10 - Implement lock-down

Dependent on issue 9 being resolved.--Thebigc (talk) 14:28, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Issue 11 - Include email registration

This should now be done, though email addresses are still optional for registration (password resets will be a pain without the email though).

Issue 12 - Have a 'popular links' section within each namespace

This probably should be implemented on an individual namespace basis so that the namespace owners can define what goes into each namespace.--Thebigc (talk) 14:39, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Issue 13 - Add content to Privacy Policy, About Us and Disclaimers sections

This has been done, but could do with a double-check.--TheBigC (talk) 07:56, 2 January 2013 (EST)

Issue 14 - Add content to the Copyrights page

Issue 15 - Add more 'useful' buttons to the top of the edit box

If there are particular buttons people want, let me know (either here, on my talk page or via the internal email system) and I'll look at adding it.--TheBigC (talk) 08:03, 2 January 2013 (EST)

Issue 16 - Include in-site SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) so users can add keywords and search by them, as well as having related links appear at the bottom of the page

Full blown internal SEO is probably more than we need at the moment, but what users can do is use Categories to organise pages to keep related information linked. I've added a brief section on this to the User guide as well.--TheBigC (talk) 07:35, 4 January 2013 (EST)

Issue 17 - Add direct link to the feedback page at the top of every page

Issue 18 - Add a 'request access button' (for restricted areas

Once there is more locked-down content limiting what users can edit I'll add this in, but for now I don't think we need it.--TheBigC (talk) 07:54, 4 January 2013 (EST)

Issue 19 - Add 'sign up for email notifications' options to both sign-up and preferences

Issue 20 - Find out what Discussion / Talk pages actually do

Well, they're pretty simple it turns out. Help:Talk pages can put it into better words than I can.--TheBigC (talk) 07:39, 4 January 2013 (EST)

Issue 21 - Modify 'discussion' pages into a forum style page

Hmm, Help:Talk pages contains details of how the Discussion pages should work in a traditional wiki style; although I can see how this would be a bit user-unfriendly for anyone who hasn't editted a wiki before. I'll work on a more traditional forum style page, but it won't happen for a little while (unless it becomes urgent).--Thebigc (talk)

Issue 22 - Add a 'is this page useful?' section to each page

I've been thinking about this, and I think we should allow page creators/editors to add this themselves to their pages if they want them rated. I'll look at how we can do this in a Template so that users won't have to worry about how the data is stored - we can take care of that for them.--TheBigC (talk) 07:54, 4 January 2013 (EST)

Issue 23 - Change name of site to Altopedia

Done.--Thebigc (talk)

Issue 24 - Add 'share this page' buttons / options to each page

Issue 25 - Add 'forwarding' functionality (via email) so that a user can forward comments/changes to a page owner

I'm not sure if we need this yet, as a user can look up the history of a page, find the user they want to contact and select 'email this user' (if both users have their email preferences set up to do this).--TheBigC (talk) 07:54, 4 January 2013 (EST)

Issue 26 - Look at on-site permissions more

The work on this one is ongoing and I think it'll evolve as Altopedia grows.--TheBigC (talk) 07:54, 4 January 2013 (EST)

Issue 27 - Make the site more mobile-phone friendly

Issue 28 - Clarify exactly how cookies are used on the site

Cookies are mainly for logged in users, more information can be found at Altopedia:Privacy policy.

Issue 29 - Investigate having to log on twice (through mobile phones)

Naomin also needs to log in twice vie a Samsung Netbook model number N110, using windows XP and Google chrome

Issue 30 - Make a checklist of which browsers/devices the site has been tested on

I think we'll need to look at simulation software too, as we'll have to re-test the whole site anyhow whenever we make any significant changes.--TheBigC (talk) 07:54, 4 January 2013 (EST)

Issue 31 - Investigate advertising / click-through options

Issue 32 - Add to the registration form a 'terms and conditions of usage' section

Issue 33 - Set up automated testing cross-browser / device

Linked to Issue 30.--TheBigC (talk) 07:54, 4 January 2013 (EST)

Issue 34 - Investigate the functionality behind the 'related changes' link

Issue 35 - Investigate / fix search button on Opera for Nokia devices

Issue 36 - Add a 'I confirm I'm over 18' checkbox to the registration process

Issue 37 - Make all external links open in a new window and all internal links open in the same window

I've been thinking about this one (from an accessibility point of view) - and the 'correct' manner of dealing with this is to let users specify how they would like to open a link. This was a few years back though. What I think we should do is put in this change and have user prefrences that let them change the default.

Issue 38 - If a user doesn't have 'edit' privileges and they attempt to create a page they are taken to the 'create page' link but can not actually create the page

Not a major issue, its just not quite right. Need to chat about this one off-line as its a good example of some wider implications.--TheBigC (talk) 08:03, 4 January 2013 (EST)

Issue 39 - Error received when uploading an .jpg file: "Error creating thumbnail: Unable to run external programs, passthru() is disabled."

Issue 40 - There is no session timeout (i.e. a user logged in doesn't get automatically logged out after a certain period of inactivity - typically 30 minutes or so)

I want to link this to the permissions the user actually has; higher level of permissions will have forced timeouts whilst general users will have a 30 minute session timeout with the ability to alter it in their preferences.

Cheers, good idea to say thank you to people providing feedback :) (And I'm really looking forward to the Talk pages being in forum format, hopefully that will make this kind of dialog a lot easier.--Thebigc (talk)
